What We Do
-
We believe every child is born with an innate capacity to learn and enjoy music.
To help that seed grow, our curriculum is built around Music Learning Theory. MLT is an extraordinary, research-backed framework created by Dr. Edwin Gordon. Our co-founder, Melissa, studied directly under Gordon and MLT expert, Dr. Cynthia Taggart. This firsthand connection keeps our teaching style rooted in the method. We’ve blended the science of MLT with our own decades of classroom and stage experience to design a uniquely curated program.
-
The easiest way to understand MLT is to think about how babies learn their native language. Long before they learn to read or write, babies develop language skills by listening to the people around them and exploring sounds through imitation and play.
Our music classes work in the same way. Through immersion, vocal exploration, and rhythmic movement, children build a deep internal relationship with music. They learn to feel and hear it first. This is where their musical roots take hold, laying the best possible foundation for advanced formal music comprehension as they grow.
-
We love that our students bring their favorite grown-ups to class! You are a huge part of the learning process. When they hear your voice, they know it is a safe place and they absolutely do not need your voice to sound perfect in order to learn. So, no pressure to perform, just simply participate and connect with your little one!
At this young age, it is completely normal for a child to wander away from the circle or look distracted. Don't worry! They are often still listening and absorbing the music just as much as the child looking straight at the teacher.
The best thing you can do is stay engaged and keep participating in the circle. When your child sees you having fun and staying involved, they will naturally want to wander back and rejoin the group whenever they are ready. We know that you will enjoy this time together as much as your child does.
